In this paper we have explored the possibility to adapt the existing text to speech converters into Arabic language in eSpeak. It is a tool that provides rules and phoneme files for more than 50 languages, besides, eSpeak is a light, fast, low memory consumption and used in multi-platforms. eSpeak provides support for several languages. The availability of TTS open sources improves access to computers and gives more valuable applications. Text to speech (TTS) is a crucial tool needed in many domains, mainly for visually impaired users. ![]() The availability of such support, open new fields to use Arabic in TTS environment, especially for blind persons. In this paper, we have explored the possibility to adapt the existing text to speech converters into Arabic language in eSpeak. ![]() The outcome of this work can be utilized in SA text-to-speech (TTS), computer-aided pronunciation learning (CAPL), and automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems. 3) Developing a robust program to identify classical Arabic poems meters depending on the reliable results of automatic phonetic transcription. 2) Accomplishing the first comprehensive automatic statistical study of linguistic units at the level of SA as a whole the results of this study were utilized in the expanded version of the developed software package to include the automatic preparation of text corpora with the desired linguistic content. The contributions of this work can be summarized as follows: 1) Developing a reliable software package for automatic phonetic transcription of Standard Arabic (SA) text with an accuracy of higher than 99%. Three applications based on this have been provided. ![]() A rule-based approach, depending on a set of language-based well-defined transcription rules and a dictionary of exceptions,has been adopted in this work. In this thesis, the problem of automatic phonetic transcription of Standard Arabic (SA) text is addressed. These units can be phonemes, allophones, syllables, allosyllables, or diphones depending on the field of application. Phonetic transcription is the transition from a written text to linguistic units.
